Raffias installation

Product Description

Each roll normally contains 5,5 m/ 6,01 yd of continuous wallpaper made up of panels, each with a 91,5cm/ 36,02  width. Because of the use of natural  bres and the small-scale production method used by craftsmen, this wallcovering shows irregularities in texture and variations in colour. These factors contribute to the characteristics and decorative charm of these wallcoverings.

How to prepare the wall

  1. Check that the wall is clean, smooth, free from imperfections and dry. Strip all remaining wallpaper.

  2. Eliminate colour di erences or contrasts. The surface should be uniform in colour.

  3. It is recommended to apply a first layer of varnish on the wall before proceeding to the installation of the wallpaper and let it dry.

  4. Before installing the wallpaper, please carefully check whether the product is in same color generally. As a handmade product, the natural  bre wallpaper may be slightly uneven in the color and pattern. That is normal and acceptable.

How to install the wallpaper

  1. Tools: Scissors, cutter, cellulose wall covering glue (non-woven), brush or roller, rubber spatula for wall coverings, cloth, bucket and a long ruler.

  2. Cut the first panel, using the height of the wall as a reference. Add 3 cm/1,18” at the top and the bottom (Total height of the wall + 6 cm/2,36”).

  3. Apply the cellulose glue with a brush or roller onto the wall and spread it evenly across the surface. Do
not abuse the amount of glue and especially careful in dark wallpapers.

  4. Apply the fist dry panel from left to right and from top to bottom, smoothing it down with a plastic wall covering spatula or a cloth to eliminate air bubbles.

  5. Check the second panel matches the first before repeating the cut detailed in point 2 and the processes detailed in points 3 (applying the glue) and 4 (adhesion and applying pressure
to the wallpaper). This check should be done each time a new panel is to be hung. The joins between the panels should not overlap if the ra a pattern does not require it. In cases where the ra a has an actual design, we recommend overlapping the joins by 2cm between panels. An identical overlap should be made with the metallic quality. The match between natural bre wallpaper panels will never be perfect due to the irregular
    characteristics of the product.

  6. The overlapping area between panels should then be removed with a cutter, using a ruler to guide the line. Remove the two excess strips.

  7. Gently remove the excess glue with a damp cloth.

  8. Remove the excess wallpaper with a cutter and a ruler.
