          Behind the scenes

A journey back in time to the Nara and Heian periods (710-1185 AD), when the skilled hands of Japanese artisans patiently transformed fabric into canvases of colour and texture through the art of dyeing.

With almost ritualistic precision, textile masters tucked, tied, and sewed delicate fibres, preparing the warp to receive natural pigments, such as aziome. Their intricate work gave rise to endless patterns, to create sophisticated kimonos.

Shibori is the impression of time imprinted on fabric; the testimony of hands in dialogue with the fabric, creating organic forms that evoke nature itself.

Coordonné’s Atelier has endeavoured to develop this unique ancient technique to cover your walls and outdoor fabrics with an abstract and minimalist finish.
